MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ The National Weather Service has issued a report on its handling of the fatal tornado that struck Rogers. The weather service says it should have said that a tornado was possible when it issued a severe thunderstorm warning before the September 16th twister. A ten-year-old girl died in Rogers when a house collapsed.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Hunters should have no trouble finding deer when Minnesota's firearms deer season opens tomorrow. The state has an estimated deer population of one-point-three (m) million. Governor Pawlenty holds his annual deer opener tomorrow in Rochester.
PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) _ Authorities have found the body of a missing Pelican Rapids man who was home on military leave. Searchers found the body of 33-year-old Troy Schultz near the slough (slew) where his pickup was found earlier. He had been missing since leaving a bar early Saturday.
WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) _ Congressman James Oberstar says Minnesota needs to raise its gas tax. During a stop in Willmar, Oberstar said Minnesota has missed out on hundreds of (m) millions of dollars in matching federal transportation dollars because it hasn't raised its gas tax since 1988.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ A Brandon lawmaker who set up a corporation that's given 750-thousand dollars to the campaign against abortion in South Dakota will not disclose where the money came from. Representative Roger Hunt say the donor prefers to remain anonymous for the safety of his family.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ A Sioux Falls man has been charged with 32 counts of federal wire fraud for allegedly setting up a nonexistent company that bilked several investors. Patrick Sanders Junior is accused of swindling people out of more than one-half (m) million dollars.
HOT SPRINGS, S.D. (AP) _ Bruce Whalen (WAY'-luhn) -- the Republican candidate for South Dakota's lone U-S House seat -- is predicting victory in his race against Democratic Representative Stephanie Herseth. But Whalen admits many voters don't know him. He blames the media for not getting a fair shake in the campaign.
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ Two lawyers have been hired for a special legislative session to look into an allegation of improper behavior by state Senator Dan Sutton of Flandreau (FLAN'-droo). One lawyer will work for the full Senate and, the other will represent Senate Democrats because none of them are lawyers.

WAPELLO, Iowa (AP) _ A Louisa County jail employee who killed his girlfriend and young son in January, then turned the gun on himself, was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Officials says the preliminary toxicology test for 25-year-old Kirk Massey showed caffeine in his system, but was negative for narcotics and alcohol. More tests will be conducted.
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) _ Officials say public outcry has postponed the move of a halfway house from Davenport's Main Street to a former department store downtown. Some residents of the Gold Coast and Hamburg Historic District have expressed their reservations about having the halfway nearby. Corrections officials say they'll take more time to hear public comment.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) _ A union representing University of Iowa graduate teaching and research assistants wants a four percent increase in salaries for each of the next two years. The Campaign to Organize Graduate Students opened collective bargaining for the 2007-2009 contracts with the request. The Board of Regent's bargaining team is expected to release its proposal this month.
VAN HORNE, Iowa (AP) _ Residents of Van Horne are taking precautions after tests showed high levels of lead in the town's drinking water. Until tests show compliance, the city is issuing letters advising residents to let their water run for a short time before using it for drinking or cooking. Van Horne is located about 20 miles west of Cedar Rapids.
