ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) — Charges could be filed today in Olmsted County against a man accused in a kidnapping and a knife attack. Sheriff's officials say the 30-year-old man abducted his former girlfriend and her 3-year-old daughter and stabbed the woman before fleeing Tuesday.
PINE CITY, Minn. (AP) — It's a bitter milestone for the three Americans detained in Iran. Saturday will mark one year in captivity. The families of Shane Bauer of Minnesota, Sarah Shourd (SHORD) and Josh Fattal say the three were hiking along the Iraqi border when they were arrested and deny Iran's accusations that they were spying.
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — A federal judge in Montana has ruled that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is arbitrarily excluding "critical habitat" that could be occupied by the elusive Canada lynx. The judge ruled the agency excluded large swaths of habitat from protection when it recommended that 39,000 square miles in Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and Washington be designated as critical habitat.
MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings are in Mankato for their first training camp practice this afternoon. If, or when, Brett Favre returns, all 22 starters will be back from a team that lost the NFC title game in overtime to the New Orleans Saints in January.

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — The Army Corps of Engineers is holding meetings today in southeast South Dakota to take public comment on a five-year study of the Missouri River and its reservoir system. The corps is holding 41 meetings in a dozen states this summer to take suggestions on how the study should be conducted.
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A woman from La Plant on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation will be sentenced in October following her guilty plea to involuntary manslaughter. Federal prosecutors say Rita Miner was driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when her vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian east of Eagle Butte last September.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota environmental group wants government regulators to investigate whether a Canadian company used faulty steel in the construction of a pipeline that moves crude oil from Canada through six states including South Dakota. A TransCanada spokesman says the Dakota Resource Council's worries are unfounded.
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — President Barack Obama has approved a disaster declaration for parts of South Dakota damaged by tornadoes, severe storms and flooding in mid-June. The declaration will free up federal money to help Dewey, Perkins and Ziebach counties and the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Six Iowa communities are holding sendoffs for the Iowa National Guard in its largest deployment since WWII. Friday's ceremonies are the first of over two dozen that will continue until Aug 9. for 2,800 members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team being sent to Afghanistan.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — President Barack Obama has authorized a presidential disaster declaration for 32 Iowa counties affected by flooding and storms since June 1. It provides federal funding to rebuild roads and bridges and other public facilities and help cover the cost of debris removal or emergency work.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Board of Regents will consider a $31 million request from Iowa State University next week. ISU wants to complete construction of a chemistry building, renovate a small-animal hospital and buy a virtual-reality system.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Cedar Rapids police say a man walked away from a crash that sent a fence post through the roof of his car. The post entered and exited the car just behind the driver's head early Thursday.
